Focus Features’ The Holdovers Sets Exclusive Streaming Debut on Peacock

Focus Features has announced the exclusive streaming debut of its latest comedy drama The Holdovers, starring Paul Giamatti and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. The film will be available for streaming on Peacock, starting on December 29.

This comes after nearly two months since The Holdovers had its theatrical release. Since then, its received multiple awards and nominations, including three Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture for Musical or Comedy, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

What is The Holdovers about?

The Holdovers is directed by Oscar winner Alexander Payne from a screenplay written by David Hemmingson. This marks directorial comeback after six years since 2017’s sci-fi dramedy Downsizing. The film will be led by Giamatti (Billions) as Paul Hunham, Randolph (The Idol) as Mary, Carrie Preston (True Blood) as Lydia Crane, Gillian Vigman (The Hangover) as Judy, Tate Donovan (Argo) as Stanley, Michael Provost (Insatiable) as Jason Smith, and Brady Hepner (The Black Phone) as Teddy Kountze, with newcomer Dominic Sessa as Angus.

“It follows a curmudgeonly instructor (Giamatti) at a New England prep school who is forced to remain on campus during Christmas break to babysit the handful of students with nowhere to go,” reads the synopsis. “Eventually he forms an unlikely bond with one of them — a damaged, brainy troublemaker (Sessa) — and with the school’s head cook, who has just lost a son in Vietnam (Randolph).”

The film is executive produced by Andrew Golov, Thom Zadra, and Chris Stinson, with Mark Johnson, Bill Block, and Hemingson set as producers.
