Backstage Reaction to AEW’s Decision To Take MJF off Roster Page

MJF recently lost the AEW World Title to Samoa Joe at AEW World’s End. Now, backstage reactions are buzzing over AEW’s decision to seemingly remove MJF from the roster page on their official website. MJF has often emphasized that his contract with AEW is set to expire on January 1, 2024. However, he describes the recent situation as a bidding war, with the leading contenders in the wrestling promotion vying to secure his services.

But now that MJF has also lost the AEW World Championship, his contract situation has taken center stage. Following the loss, he was removed from the promotion’s website roster page, which raises eyebrows among fans while insiders suggest it may be a calculated move.

According to PW Insider, sources within the promotion indicate that this could be a strategic move. This could possibly be tied to the ongoing “war of ’24” narrative that MJF has been weaving into his character lately.

As stated in the article, “No one we’ve spoken with in the company believes he is actually gone and this is just storyline playing off his “war of ’24’ stuff that he’s referenced forever. MJF has been banged up for some time so a hiatus would do him well right now, both in terms of health and in freshening him up after he’s a focal point of the storylines over the last year.”

However, this potential hiatus could serve as a breather for MJF. As such, this would allow him to recuperate and return to the AEW scene with a fresh start.

What’s next for former AEW World Champion MJF?

Having lost his AEW World Championship, MJF is notably absent from the official promotion website. However, recent reports suggest this is a part of his scripted “war of ’24.”

At AEW Worlds End, he was shocked when Adam Cole, his best friend, unveiled himself as the Devil, with Roderick Strong, Wardlow, and Kingdom by his side. The ensuing attack by Strong and Wardlow left MJF down in the ring. Meanwhile, Cole stood tall with his newly formed faction.

Amidst speculations, it’s reported that sources within WWE believed MJF had already re-committed to AEW post-All Out 2022. Despite this re-signing, it appears MJF is set for a hiatus due to lingering injuries.

During MJF’s absence, Adam Cole and his faction have the opportunity to sow more chaos in AEW. However, it’s noteworthy that Cole is currently nursing an ankle injury. As both competitors recover, the stage may be set for MJF’s return. This may potentially lead to a confrontation with Cole following the betrayal at Worlds End.
